Gabriele Wittmann

Gabriele Wittmann writes and researches since 1993 as a freelance professional dance author in print, broadcasting stations and Television. After her studies in Philosophy, American Language and Literature and Music Studies she wrote for the taz and for the culture magazine Texte und Zeichen at NDR. Besides her culture-political features she wrote many years for the magazine Kultur Heute at Deutschlandfunk and was a live stage-reporter for Deutschlanradio and Radio Bremen. As an editorial assistant she created divers Tele-Tanzjournale and worked for the theatre magazine Foyer on ZDF/3sat. She lectures nationally and abroad and publishes in professional magazines and the yearbooks of the Community of Dance Research. Since 2003 she teaches Dance Critics and Dance History at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. For the MA study course

Contemporary Dance Pedagogy she presently develops the panel ‚Creative Scientific Writing‘.

Her focus in research is based on the cognitionboarder between movement and text. In 2009 she authored a basic work about postmodern choreogrpher Anna Halprin together with divers colleagues. In the frame of the research project Tanztechniken 2010 / Tanzplan Deutschland – eine Initiative der Kulturstiftung des Bundes she was leading a panel concerning Release-based Movementapproaches in Frankfurt.
