Cesc Gelabert

was born in Barcelona. He studied Architecture and began his dance career as a pupil of Anna Maler. Very early he began to choreograph his own works and he established himself as an active member of the New York dance scene in the 70s. In 1985 he founded the Gelabert-Azzopardi Companyia de Dansa with the dancer Lydia Azzopardi. They created two of the most formative works in Spanish contemporary dance: Requiem (Verdi) and Belmonte. Since the end of the 1980s there is a strong cooperation with Hebbel Theater as well as with other institutions in Berlin. At present Cesc Gelabert is one of the most influential Choreographers and Dancers in Spain.
