The 3rd Dance Education Biennale 2012 Frankfurt am Main is a Project of Ausbildungskonferenz Tanz (AK|T), promoted by the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and founded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.

The 3rd Dance Education Biennale takes place every two years in different Cities in Germany. It gives a platform to Universities which offer study paths in dance and to vocational schools in Germany to afford a constant gathering and a professional exchange. Artistic Presentations, Lectures, Workshops and Professional Trainings help to create a lively exchange atmosphere about dance and choreography, as well as about different approaches in education and work between students, teachers, artists, researchers and audience

The 3rd Dance Education Biennale 2012 Frankfurt am Main focuses on the topic CULTURAL HERITAGE in DANCE. From March 6th to 12th more than 150 participants – students, lecturers and teachers – will  address to this topic during Workshops, Performances and a Symposium:

  • Which connections exist between these three terms and fields?
  • What is seen as Dance Heritage by whom? What makes Culture?
  • How are Dance Knowledge and Body Knowledge generated and passed on?
  • How is the access to such Knowledge afforded?
  • What is being documented today, and how is it being documented, to make Dance Heritage accessible for the future?
  • How has this been done in the past and how do we act with these documentations today?

These questions concerning CULTURAL HERTITAGE in DANCE follow up as well to the subject of the 2nd Biennial in Dance Education in Essen „Models of Reconstruction“ as to the subject of 1st Biennial in Dance Education / Tanzplan Deutschland in Berlin „Implementation of new learning tools and multimedia projects in dance education“. More information in the Biennial Archive.

Besides that, the 3rd Biennial in Dance Education gives an opportunity to get informed about the up-to-date level of dance education in Germany. It gives insights into the dynamically developing dance education landscape. Especially in the past five years it has happened a lot. The Tanzplan Deutschland Education Projects and the constant Meeting of Education Institutions initiated by Ingo Diehl, have been formative for these developments. Round Tables with professionals, loads of meetings and a constant exchange have caused something amazing. The network between institutions has been strengthened and caused a constant cooperation. One of the signs of the successful cooperation is the continuation of the Biennial in Dance Education. Thanks to a sponsoring agreement of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, this national forum for exchange and discussion can stay an important meeting point for all teachers and students in the field of dance in Universities and Academies, even after the initiating project Tanzplan Deutschland has expired.

Annette Schavan, the Federal Minister for Education and Research wrote in her greeting for the 2nd Biennial in Dance Education / Tanzplan Deutschland 2010 in Essen:
„The Biennial in Dance Education “ is an important mile stone on our way, to visualize dance in it’s various forms as an elementary part of our culture and cultural education. It is as well a permanent challenge to all students and teachers at Universities, to further develop this promising way of cooperation.“
