Prof. Jason Beechey

In August 2006 Jason Beechy became director of Palucca University for Dance in Dresden. At the same time he is coordinator of the D.A.N.C.E. programme.

Jason Beechey graduated at Canada´s National Ballet School. He continued his education as a dancer at Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg and with Stanley Williams at the School of American Ballet in New York.

He started is career as a solo dancer at London City Ballet and afterwards danced for 15 years at Charleroi/Danses in Belgium. Parallel to his interdisciplinary and improvisation-based cooperation with Fréderic Flamand, he got the opportunity to create diverse pieces with Stephen Petronio, Karole Armitage and Lucinda Childs. He also worked with artists from other fields, as the architects Zaha Hadid and Diller, Scofidio & Renfro and danced in choreographies of Paul Taylor, August Bournonville, Marius Petipa, and Merce Cunningham.

His passion for classical and contemporary dance and improviation, as well as his effort to create career options for young dancers, lead him to take over the position as a training leader at the choreographic centre Charleroi/ Danses. Further he founded his own studio "The Loft" in Brussels and developed the D.A.N.C.E. programme in close cooperation with William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Fréderic Flamand and Angelin Preljocaj.

in 2006 he redefined and redeveloped the concept of Palucca University with his visions and ideas - e.g. the Elevenprogramme in cooperation with the Semperoper Ballett, the project Tanzplan Dresden as well as the building up of a global network of exchange programmes and partner universities.

Jason Beechey is first speaker of AKT Conference (Education Conference in Dance), which unifies 10 professional Dance Education Institutions in Germany. He is furthermore a constant member in the jury of Youth America Grand Prix and in the artistic comittee of Prix de Lausanne.
