Contemporary Dance
The contents and building blocks of the class are themselves the heritage and legacy of those people and styles, which influenced the direction of my career as a dancer and simultaneously sparked something in me that facilitated my journey towards the question of when access is created, my access to the body, to material, to improvisation, to myself - bringing me in connection with myself and simultaneously allowing me to shape my body. The class begins with a gentle warm-up combining breathing techniques and elements from aikido and yoga. The goal is to gradually set the physical body in motion, make it responsive to movement, as well as wake up the spirit and train the attentiveness of the mind.
The next section includes combinations that gradually increase in tempo and dynamics and make use of intense floor work, as well as upright placement in space. The focus lies on developing of awareness of one’s own body, as well as the surrounding space. This not merely gives us control over the body, which generally has to do with tension, but rather the steering of our own dance. Dynamic quick transitions here take place in a resting state of the spirit and out of a maximum degree of release in the body. The class is conceived as holistic training to help dancers get a good start into the rest of their working day.
