Classical Dance
Andrea Tallis is Professor for Classical Dance at the ZuKT, HfMDK Frankfurt. Her early training and first professional experiences were gained in Los Angeles, New York, and Frankfurt with teachers and directors such as Irina Kosmovska, John Clifford, Melissa Hayden, Alexandra Danilova, Stanley Williams, Natalia Makarova, and Egon Madsen. She has worked for many years with William Forsythe and The Frankfurt Ballet. These people, among many others she encountered in the years performing and teaching, inspired the concepts and passion she teaches with today. The Vaganova and the Balanchine technique are the foundation for the concept of her classes. Classical ballet technique has evolved over the past centuries. Contemporary concepts have assisted to refine the technique. In turn, the technique also informs contemporary dance and contemporary concepts. Physically and mentally, today's students are determined to carry this art form a step further. As a teacher and ballet master, Andrea Tallis offers the knowledge of her experience teaching and/or rehearsing numerous companies such as The Frankfurt Ballet, Gothenburg Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theater, Cullberg Ballet and others. She combines classical ballet training, bringing with her the knowledge that she has accumulated, a focus on what is needed today to be a dancer. She strives to examine concepts from the past, present, and instigate the possibilities of the future.
Physical focuses in the daily class:
a) Coordination, articulation, balance, muscle refinement and strength
b) The relationship of body and space through movement
c) The relationship to music and moving with mind to body immediacy
Accumulating knowledge can continually expand the body, the mind and passion for dance.
