born in Berlin. Studied Philosophy, German Language and Literature and dramatics at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She worked as a freelancer in different broadcasting stations as well as publishing companies. 1959/60 she lived for one year in the UK. Since 1963 she was research assistant at the Academy of the Arts, Berlin (West) in the faculties music and performing arts. 1986-88 she was leading the „Werkstatt Berlin“ in the frame of the programme „Berlin – Kulturstadt Europas 1988“. 1989 she founded the Hebbel-Theater in Berlin which she lead until 2002. 2002 – until the end of 2006 she was leader of the „Berliner Künstlerprogramms des DAAD“. Since 2006 she is vice president of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin. She is member in numerous boards, is working in the frame of different cultural and culture-political initiatives, amongst others she is speaker of the initiatve „Europa eine Seele geben.“
