Contemporary Dance
Vera Sander’s class teaches practical aspects of contemporary dance technique. How to handle the floor, mobility of the spine, use of body center, flexibility, handling weight/counterbalance are all worked on and communicated. These serve then as the basic principles, which dancers can fall back on in the execution of technical dance movement sequences, movement research, improvisation and composition.
Through observation and application of the following categories, body awareness is practiced and understanding of the body improved: mechanics of movement, anatomical facts, use of muscular apparatus, dimensionalization of movement, initiation of movement. References to range of dance technique possible provide students with the chance to make what they have learned productive for the fields of improvisation and composition as well. Tips on learning strategies give participants the possibility to discover and apply learning strategies of their own.
